Sandhills News has two educated journalists who provide book reviews.
Roxanna Ray earned a bachelor’s in English from UNC-G with a minor in history. She has more than 20 years of PR experience: five years with Stellarcon and 16 years as the newsletter editor and FB administrator for First Congregational Christian Church. Her work has appeared in Starlog and Cinefantastique magazines as well as local newspapers in Sanford and Greensboro.
Diara J. Townes is a curious storyteller who reads everything from investigative nonfiction to romantic fantasy epics. She holds a BS in marine and environmental science and an MA in engagement journalism.
Restrictions for all submissions:
NO attachments will be opened.
No profanity.
No submissions discussing sex, gender, or alleged crimes. (If there is one of these topics in the book for your review, please submit the review, but do not discuss any of these topics.)
No accusatory submissions. For example, do not send a story about an alleged crime from either the perspective of the alleged perpetrator or victim.
No opinion stories with defamation of character that may lead to slander or libel. For example, do not send a story claiming Mr. J stole your dog collar or that Mrs. J is a mean teacher who gives too much homework. These are opinions, but not terribly newsworthy and not verifiable without extreme research.
No plagiarism.
No AI-generated content.
No links to websites or social media addresses or emails. Type out the website name or social media profile address.
By submitting your story (or book review) and advertising statement, for publication, you agree and understand your words will be verified and edited and may be rejected. Rejections may be due to time efficiency, irrelevant date (too late to advertise the event because editor is overloaded and cannot publish until a few days later), or do not align with editorial priorities.
No personal information will be shared or sold.
SOCIAL MEDIA RULES:
Sandhills News will post some stories on Facebook, X, or Bluesky, or Instagram.
Derogatory speech, including name-calling, threats, and defamation of character will result in deleted comments.
MOTTO: Sandhills News fosters a caring community of hometown goodness and charity.
We reserve the right to reject any submission at our sole discretion.
