Lee: SNAP delayed

Beginning November 1, SNAP benefits will not be added to Electronic Benefit Transfer cards due to the pause placed by the United States Department of Agriculture on all November SNAP benefits until further notice while the federal government is shut down.

Individuals are still able to use any remaining funds on their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards and current benefits at retailers and grocers that accept SNAP/EBT in North Carolina.

To check EBT card balances:

• Call 1-888-622-7328,
• Visit ebtEDGE and click “More Information” under EBT Cardholders, or
• Download the ebtEDGE mobile app. The app is available as a free download on the Apple Store and Google Play.

While the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has suspended SNAP benefits for November, reporting requirements continue, which also includes recertifying for benefits.

The Lee County Department of Social Services will operate under normal business hours and process new SNAP applications, recertifications, and change reports.

Counties have been notified that the NC Department of Health and Human Services is ready to act quickly if the USDA allows North Carolina to resume November SNAP benefits.
