Lee County: Charlotte Avenue intersection to close next week

The intersection of Charlotte Avenue and First Street will close for about two weeks beginning the week of August 17 for crews to construct a manhole and tie in sewer lines.

First Street and Pilgrim’s Sanford Agricultural Marketplace will remain accessible during the closure.

• From the east: Detour signs have been placed directing drivers to use Midland Avenue.
• From the west: Drivers can use Chisholm Street from Hawkins Avenue.

The work is part of TriRiver Water’s sewer rehabilitation project in East Sanford that began in June and has required intermittent closures in the area.

Anticipated for completion in the spring of 2027, the project will replace nearly 5,500 linear feet of 12-inch sewer line with 18-inch sewer line. The new lines will improve efficiency and increase capacity in the system.
