Sandhills Community College announces fall courses in Hoke County

As the next eight-week fall session is about to start on Monday, Oct. 14, at Sandhills Community College (SCC), Hoke County residents are encouraged to apply for some new course offerings at the Hoke Center campus on 1110 East Central Ave., Raeford, NC 28376 and its new Workforce Trades Building, at 2550 Aberdeen Road, just west of Raeford.

Second Session opportunities include: 

• Beginner Line Dancing. Starting Oct. 14 – Nov. 25, Wednesday nights at 6 p.m.
• Tax-Smart Retirement:  Keeping more of what you’ve earned. Oct. 6 – Oct. 20, (three classes) Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
• What are Clinical Trials and Why Should I Care?  Monday, October 5, 3-5 p.m. – No cost
• Medical Math. November 3 – November 17, Tuesdays at 5:30-7:30 p.m.
• Notary Public Education. Thursday, November 5, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
• Foundations to Mechanical Systems. Schedule Option 1: October 12-May 12, Mondays and Wednesdays 6-9:15 p.m. OR Schedule Option 2: October 17-May 15, Saturdays 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (New Workforce Trades Building)

SCC recently announced the opening of a new Workforce Trades Building with the intent to support in demand skilled workforce positions for the region and offer a hands-on instructional experience to support a trade that will lead to immediate employment and career opportunities. It launched this fall with classes for Small Engine Repair and soon Electro-Mechanical Pathway/Foundations to Mechanical Systems, with more programs coming to support advanced manufacturing and automation. An open house and ribbon cutting for the new building is being planned for later this fall for businesses and community members to tour.
