Sunrise Theater announces Dec. 8 Highland Holidays performance

Bagpipes, fiddles, Highland dances and Christmas traditions return to the Sandhills when Highland Holidays – A Celtic Christmas with Highland Echoes performs at the Sunrise Theater on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m.

The performance is part of a seven-city Carolina holiday tour and features the complete Highland Holidays music-and-dance production.

Highland Holidays combines familiar Christmas music with the sound and movement of Scotland: live fiddle and Highland pipes, percussion, vocals, premier Highland dancers, original choreography, seasonal stories and music inspired by Scottish winter traditions and Hogmanay.

The international cast includes award-winning Celtic vocalist Jennifer Licko; Patrick Mangan, a 12-year fiddle veteran of Riverdance; Highland piper Cassandra Calo; Brazilian percussionist Daniel Gohn; Stephen Pachuta on bass, trumpet and keys; and the Highland Echoes Premier Scottish Dancers, with original choreography by Sandra Gribbin.

“The Carolinas’ connection with Scotland gives us an incredible heritage story to build from,” Licko said. “Highland Holidays is about honoring that past while showing how those traditions still live in our communities today. During the holiday season, we bring that heritage together through exceptional music and dance and let it come fully to life onstage.”

The show is designed for audiences of all ages and for families looking for a holiday experience beyond the traditional Christmas concert.

Highland Echoes is supported by the Scottish Cultural Outreach Foundation, a North Carolina 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose educational and cultural programs help preserve and share Scottish arts and heritage.
