Lee County Commissioner Chairman Kirk Smith resigned at the May 18 meeting, and the board elected Commissioner Samantha Martin as the new chairperson until the next operational meeting.

The board recognized Smith’s service, dedication and countless hours in shouldering the responsibilities of public service.
