Opportunities in advanced manufacturing are moving fast in the region and Sandhills Community College (SCC) is at the ready to provide the training that employers are seeking in the region at their new Workforce Trades Building – Hoke off Route 211 in Raeford.
Beginning Monday, Oct. 12 evening classes will be offered and Saturday, Oct. 17, Saturday classes will get underway. The Foundations of Mechanical Systems courses will offer hands-on skills around electrical systems motors, and system operations; mechanical components, power transmission, measurement and tools; installation and maintenance and basic troubleshooting; safe work practices in today’s industrial environment; and lab activities with preparation for advance training in automation and robotics.
Students who successfully complete the course are guaranteed a job interview with regional employers including PTT, Dracoe and Unilever leading to direct pathways to high-demand jobs.
“We’re thrilled to launch this program for residents of Hoke and Moore Counties,” said Dr. Michelle Bauer, Vice Provost for Instructional Programs at Sandhills Community College. “This training opportunity will help support the growing workforce needs of our regional manufacturing partners while providing community members with a flexible pathway to develop in-demand, hands-on skills through evening and weekend classes. As advanced manufacturing continues to grow across our region, these skills can open the door to stable, high-quality jobs and long-term career advancement for local residents.”
