Harnett County cuts property tax to 63¢ and seeks traffic solutions
July 14, 2026

Greetings, fellow Town and Country Advocates.
The Moore County Board of Commissioners is at it again. Despite drafting and approving a solid Land Use Plan last year, they are now rewriting the Unified Development Ordinance to allow the wholesale destruction of what the Land Use Plan says we should protect.
The most significant changes proposed are for major subdivisions. This is where the Board will start since they love subdivisions, and they are the fastest way to eliminate farmland and the ambiance and heritage of Moore County. The most significant changes proposed are for major subdivisions. This is where the Board will start since they love subdivisions and they are the fastest way to eliminate farmland and the ambiance and heritage of Moore County.
The first step is the County Planning Board Meeting on Thursday, July 9, at 4 p.m. in the Historic County Courthouse.
We expect this to move quickly to the Board of Commissioners’ meeting in August. The shenanigans have already begun; this meeting is normally scheduled for 6 p.m., so working folks can attend. Now it is 4 p.m.
We recognize this specially set early time conflicts with many work schedules, but we encourage you to gather friends and family opposed to these major proposed changes and attend.
If you don’t want a 500-home subdivision in your backyard or mini-10-home subdivisions popping up all around Moore County, come out and let your voice be heard!
As a landowner, you have the essential right to the quiet use and enjoyment of your land. If you don’t exercise your rights, someone might take them away.
Stay engaged. Your voice is making a difference!
“Change is inevitable, Growth is optional.”
